So for the past week Capital FM were running a daily competition to send in your best #KungFuFace in order to be in with a chance of winning an all expenses paid holiday to Hong Kong. The competition started last week Friday and ended yesterday and there were 6 winners who were chosen at random and invited to go on air the next day (on weekdays) in order to claim their prize.
The competition was running to promote the release of the new ‘Kung Fu Panda 3’ film, which was released in cinemas on Friday.
The film synopsis
“ Living large and loving life, Po (Jack Black) realizes that he has a lot to learn if he’s going to fulfill the next challenge from his beloved instructor (Dustin Hoffman). After reuniting with his long-lost father (Bryan Cranston), Po must transition from student to teacher and train a group of fun-loving, clumsy pandas to become martial-arts fighters. Together, the kung-fu brethren unite to take on the evil Kai (J.K. Simmons), a supernatural warrior who becomes stronger with each battle.”
I found out about the competition on Monday and sent in my #KungFuFace on Monday night. On Tuesday afternoon I was sitting in my Comparative Literature and it was just going to be like any other Tuesday or so I thought…
I got the DM (Direct Message) to let me know that I had been shortlisted at 12:30, my lecture finished at 13:00 and I only had 30 minutes to respond, otherwise they would choose someone else. Luckily, I saw the message as soon as they sent it at 12:30, which is just well as if I’d seen after my lecture had finished and my time was up I, would have been gutted.
I left my lecture and responded to the message instantly, a representative from the show called me straightaway to congratulate me again on being shortlisted and to go live on air the following morning in order to find out whether I’d actually won. I agreed that I would and then spent the rest of the day trying to put it to the back of my mind and concentrate on my French exam that I had the following morning.
It got to Wednesday morning and I was in the kitchen eating my breakfast and anxiously waiting for them to call. They called at 08:05… I was told that they would read the news and then they would play two more songs and then they would ‘possibly’ come to me if I were the chosen winner. It got to 08:15 and the following happened:
As you can hear I was in shock. I was literally shaking. I couldn’t believe it! I still can’t! I’m going on a FREE HOLIDAY TO HONG KONG! It’s actually still so surreal, after the £10,000 and the tech bundle, this is the second biggest prize I’ve ever won! I’ve literally entered hundreds of competitions to win a holiday abroad and never had any luck and now all of a sudden this… I haven’t just won any holiday; I’ve won a frigging HOLIDAY TO HONG KONG! One of the places that happens to be at the top of my bucket list, and that I’ve always wanted to go to but could never afford too. This is why I absolutely love comping, because it allows you to get to do things you’d never usually be able to experience and to lead a lifestyle that you could of only ever dreamed of.
The full prize
- Return flights with BA from my choice of UK City for 2 people
- 5 nights in a 4* hotel
- £1000 spending money!!!!!
It’s literally incredible. What makes it even better (if anything could even make it better!) is the fact that I’ve got a friend doing a year abroad at the university of Singapore who I wanted to go and visit and go travelling with, before she comes back at the end of May; I’ve also got family living out in Guangzhou (2 hours from Hong Kong) and they’ve been out there for 2 years but are coming back to England at the end of July and I wanted to go and visit them too but couldn’t afford too and now I can! We’re going to make it into a 3-week trip and fly into Hong Kong and then fly directly to Singapore to visit my friend and go travelling around Southeast Asia with her. From Singapore we’re going to fly directly onto Guangzhou and go and visit my cousins and then we’re going to get the train from Guangzhou direct to Hong Kong (it’s 2 hours) and then have our holiday in Hong Kong and fly back to England from there.
I’m actually so excited, it just goes to show persistence and positive thinking pays off. At the start of the year when I created my prize wish-list a holiday abroad was at the top of the list and I was determined that I would win one. I even went so far as to imagine what it would be like to win one I just never imagined how good the actual prize would be!
So anyway that’s how I won the holiday and how my summer plans just got so much more exciting!
Have you ever won a holiday abroad, if so how, and where did you go? Are you trying to win a holiday abroad, if so where would you love to go? Let me know in the comments below!
